Hammerhead

A hammerhead is a shark of Sphyrnidae family, named for its broad head that resembles a hammer. The hammerhead shark is distinctive and immediately recognisable. Its eyes are at each end of the 'hammer', known as a cephalofoil.

The best places to spot a hammerhead in the wild in Australia are in the Montebello Islands and Rowley Shoals Marine Parks of Western Australia. To see a hammerhead in captivity, call Sea Life Sydney to find out how many hammerheads they have in Shark Valley.

The hammerhead is an endangered species, so if you would like to help save the hammerhead please donate to The Australian Marine Conservation Society.
